Ottawa's loveliest fabric and knitting shop, Fabrications, offers many classes for many interests. This spring, I'm teaching TWO interesting workshops:
1) Repair & Restore May 17 When your beloved handmade items have seen better days, it's time to mend them, not throw them out! Learn how to give those moth-loved sweaters, and torn knees new life with visible mending.
2) Learn to Upcycle June 24 Open to all who are interested in lightening their footprint and extending the life of once-loved clothing items. Transform a neglected item) into another, one-of-a-kind, and often more valuable, treasured item by repairing or altering, or both. Return meaning to your favourite pieces.
If you're in the region, give them a call to book your class at 613 851-9091 today!
This summer, The Ottawa School of Art is offering two week-long camps for kids taught by me.
The first is Textile Art: Mixed Media, Ages 10 - 11; Mon - Fri, 9 am - 4:30 pm, July 31 to August 4, 2023. In this fun camp, students will get their hands dirty exploring shapes, layers, and textures using various materials and fibre manipulations, including felting, weaving, and macrame. Painting, sculpture and print are also part of the fun.
Then, a few weeks later, for the older kids, Anti-fast Fashion, Ages 13 - 15, Mon - Fri, 9 am - 4 pm, August 21 to 25, 2023. Students are reminded they aren't anti-FASHION and guided to rewrite their rules and making a statement! They learn to upcycle or make simple garments without throwing anything away. Basic machine and hand sewing is taught. Bring your origami skills along, and let's get creative.
