From April 17 to June 19, 2024, 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.
At the Ottawa School of Art Downtown Campus.
This course explores a sampling of textiles, fibre contents, and traditional techniques. Each week we focus on a specific medium. Through that medium, students are introduced to many traditional styles. Several sessions are dedicated to mixing techniques and breaking traditional rules through exploration, error, and success.
Notable artists and historical movements are studied and discussed from the standpoint of media, technique, and art vs. craft.
Students are encouraged to experiment and develop their artistic voice. Articles of interest are fibres of many contents, and textile methods like tatting, lace making, knitting, crochet, weaving, and embroidery.
